Between the Sweeps

A Channel Swept at Ten-Metre Intervals Can Still Hide a Pinnacle. So Can a Safety Record

A survey covers ground at a stated spacing, and anything narrower than that spacing can sit between the lines untouched. The sheet then shows clear water, correctly. Safety records for supplements are swept at a spacing most buyers never ask about.

How hard something was looked for decides what not finding it means. These three keep that in view.

We Give the Numbers Behind a Safety Claim

Where a study reports no adverse events, we give how many people were followed and for how long. Those two figures decide what the absence means, and without them a clean safety table is a statement about the study’s size rather than about the substance.

The Route Ends With Your Pharmacist

Reasoning about undetected risk from published trials is not the same as knowing your own. A pharmacist has access to reporting databases you do not, and can weigh a thin safety record against what you already take rather than against the general population.

Silence Is Reported as Silence

Where nothing has been reported and nobody has looked systematically, we say that rather than describing the substance as well tolerated. The two sentences are frequently interchangeable in marketing and are not interchangeable at all. We sell no supplement, hold no affiliate arrangement, and publish no testimonials.

A thin safety record is not evidence of danger, and this page is not claiming these products are harmful. It is pointing out that the reassurance being offered rests on studies too small to have detected an uncommon problem — which leaves the question open rather than answered badly. The one place this matters concretely is interaction with medicines you already take, because that risk is not rare and is checkable today.

Health Notice: This is general education and nothing besides. It reaches no diagnosis, writes no prescription, and performs none of the work of an examination by a qualified physician. Supplements substitute neither for eating properly nor for proper clinical care. Take any change you are considering — starting, stopping, altering an amount — to your doctor before making it, and treat that as absolute where prescription medication or an existing condition is involved.

Corrections and Coverage

If we have reported a safety finding without its sample size and follow-up, or overstated what an absence of reports establishes, send the reference. That gets corrected in public.
